9 of the Best Indoor Pickleball Courts You Need to Visit
At last, the fastest-growing sport in America is receiving more indoor venues built for pickleball players!
While it is fun to play at the outdoor pickleball courts at the local YMCAs and community centers, nothing beats dedicated indoor spaces where year-round play is possible. Whether you normally play in the tropical heat of Florida or the cold weather in Connecticut, there are now several indoor pickleball clubs opening in smaller towns across the country to let you play comfortably indoors.
The House of Pickleball
HOP, or House of Pickleball, is a pickleball-only facility located in Leland, North Carolina. It has six indoor, climate-controlled pickleball courts. In addition to offering drop-in play, rounds robins, social events, and tournaments it also features a viewing area, a pro shop, a ball machine for rent, and beer, wine, cider, and snacks for sale.
This state-of-the-art facility is bringing the joy of pickleball to the greater Leland area for beginners and pros alike!
Pickleball Zone
Pickleball Zone opened its doors in Bend, Oregon, in October 2018. On the 3rd floor you will find 8 dedicated indoor pickleball courts in this 55,000-square-foot facility that houses the Trampoline Zone & Adventure Park recreation center on the ground floor. On the fourth floor is the Head Players Lounge and observation balconies, which provide great views of the game. Memberships and individual court rentals are available for those of all skill levels for the Pickleball Zone, as well as lessons, clinics, camps, round-robins, challenge play, and tournaments.
Iowa West Field House
Council Bluffs Area Pickleball Club has its home at Iowa West Field House, which opened in September 2019. The unused areas in this 16,000 sq. ft. tenant improvement project were converted into an indoor pickleball facility, featuring six state-of-the-art pickleball courts, as well as a sports floor and nets to divide the courts. Several volleyball and basketball courts are also available for individual and community use.
Pickleplex of Punta Gorda
In June 2019, Punta Gorda's Pickleplex celebrated the completion of phase one, which includes its 16 phenomenal outdoor courts. Up next is phase 2, which will consist of the construction of an additional 16 courts. PicklePlex plans to eventually feature 32 outdoor courts, eight indoor courts, a fitness center, a pro shop, a restaurant and bar, and a conference center in the near future. They also host the annual APP Pickleball Tournament!
Pickleball Kingdom
Located in Arizona, Pickleball Kingdom allows you to play indoors, away from the summer heat. Featuring eight outdoor and four indoor courts, along with basketball and volleyball courts, this pickleball facility hosts several events, clinics, and has leagues for players to join. Relax in their clubhouse, which has a bar, kitchen, and patio, or stock up on gear in their pro shop!
Pickleball Island
In all of New York, Pickleball Island of Grand Island, NY is one of the largest indoor pickleball facilities with seven courts, a pro shop featuring a huge selection of pickleball paddles and other wearable accessories, and a lounge. A total of three tournaments are held on Pickleball Island each year: Speedy Singles, Dinking for Dollars, and Dilly Dilly. Besides open play, the facility offers leagues, court rentals, lessons, and clinics. Plus, everyone gets one free beginner’s lesson during open play dates!
Oxford Pickleball
In Oxford, Connecticut, the 16,500-square-foot facility has four temperature-controlled indoor courts with cushioned surfaces, permanent nets, LED lighting, and locker rooms for women and men. The club also offers clinics, lessons, court reservations, and other activities in addition to its daily drop-in play.
Smash Park
There are 4 indoor and 2 outdoor pickleball courts at Smash Park, as well as an indoor deck with a full bar, outdoor fire pits, and shaded beer gardens. They also offer tournaments for beginner’s throughout the year and have several leagues to join. Pickleball is not the only game available at Smash Park; shuffleboard, bocce ball, ping pong, cornhole, and lots of other yard games are available.
Chicken n Pickle
Aside from having a fast-casual dining restaurant, and outdoor and indoor pickleball courts, Chicken N Pickle has a bar, outdoor lawn games, food trucks, a fire pit, and TVs so you can watch your favorite game with friends.
The first Chicken n Pickle location opened in North Kansas City, MO in July 2016. They have since opened an additional 7 locations and there are 8 more locations pending opening throughout the southwestern United States.
