What is High-Intensity Interval Training?

HIIT can be performed with any type of exercise but is often done with activities such as running, cycling, or rowing.

Sure, you may not be running sprints up and down the court like other major sports, but the sudden bursts and starting and stopping make it a viable workout for most people. 

How to Play Pickleball

Pickleball is a fun sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The game is played on a court that is similar to a tennis court, and the rules are also similar to tennis. However, there are a few key differences that make pickleball unique. For example, the paddle used in pickleball is much smaller than a tennis racket, and the ball is also smaller and softer. These factors make pickleball a great option for people who want to enjoy a competitive game but don’t want the high impact of tennis. If you’re thinking about giving pickleball a try, here are a few things you need to know.

First, you’ll need to find a pickleball court. Many community recreation centers have pickleball courts, or you can sometimes find them at public parks. Once you’ve found a court, you’ll need to get the equipment. You can either bring your own paddle and balls, or you can often rent them at the court. 

Here are some important rules to know about pickleball:

  • The game is played with two players (singles) or four players (doubles).

  • To win a match, you must be the first team to score 11 points. Only the serving team can score a point. You must win by at least two points.

  • Serving is done underhand only. This means, your paddle cannot rise above your waist on the serve.

  • On the pickleball court, there is an area called the non-volley zone or “the kitchen.” This area is close to the net and can only be stepped in when the ball bounces. If you step into the kitchen and hit the ball before it bounces, then it is a let–meaning the volley is over and the next serve must begin.

How to Get Better at Pickleball

Play

While there are limits to how good you can get by just playing a sport, you need to start somewhere. Get out on the court and start hitting the ball around. Find ways to improve your striking or footwork as you do.

Practice

Practice–or more distinctly, dedicated practice, has been shown as the best way to improve at any sport. If you notice that you are lacking in certain areas, try improving those areas while not involved directly in a competitive match.
