The final PPA tournament of the year just finished up in Orlando, Florida. If you’ve been following pickleball, you know the names Anna Leigh Waters & Ben Johns. If you’re new around here, you’ll be seeing these names a lot. They completely dominated all year and didn’t slow down this weekend in Orlando.
Both Anna Leigh Waters & Ben Johns finished the year with another triple crown.
What is a triple crown in Pickleball?
A triple crown is when a player wins Mens Doubles, Mixed Doubles, and Singles all in the same tournament. As more and more players come into the sport, a lot of players excel in one or maybe two events… rarely all three. To win the triple crown, you need to win all of your matches three days in a row to earn a spot on Championship Sunday.
Then on Championship Sunday, you need to win best 3 of 5 in Mens/Womens Doubles and Mixed Doubles followed by a best 2 of 3 in Singles. Potentially 13 games in one day against the top players in the world… CRAZY!
