PPA Championship Las Vegas: Pickleball Tournament Recap

Wow!! What a weekend it was at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here is a recap of everything you need to know from the PPA Championships.


On Thursday, Men's and Women’s Singles started things off and did not disappoint. In the men's semi finals, Zane Navratil beat Ben Johns (11-6,11-8) and Tyson McGuffin beat JW Johnson (8-11,11-8,11-6). Zane and Tyson advanced to Championship Sunday while Jay Devilliers beat JW Johnson (1-11,11-2,11-9) to take bronze.

On the women's side, Catherine Parenteau did not lose a game all day… she was on another level! Catherine beat Callie Smith in the semi finals (11-6,11-3) and Anna Leigh Waters beat Lea Jansen ​​(11-6,11-6). Catherine and Anna Leigh advanced to Championship Sunday while Calle Smith beat Irina

​​Tereschenko to take bronze.


Next up was a crazy day of Mixed Doubles… The craziness began when the favorites, Ben Johns and Simone Jardim, lost their second match to Kyle Yates and Anna Leigh Waters (11-7,11-2). In semi final #1, Yates and Waters lost to Jessie Irvine and Jay Devilliers (11-7,11-9). In semi final #2, Lindsey Newman and Riley Newman beat Matt Wright and Lucy Kovalova (11-5,11-5) to advance to Championship Sunday. Wright and Kovalova took bronze by defeating Catherine Parenteau and Dekel Bar.

The story of the day in men’s doubles was Dekel Bar and Adam Stone. They rolled into Championship Sunday with wins over Frank Anthony Davis / Kyle McKenzie and Collin Johns / Erik Lange before upsetting Matt Wright and Ben Johns (1-11,13-11,11-8) in the semi finals. On the other side of the bracket, it was Tyson McGuffin and Riley Newman that would advance to Championship Sunday. Tyson and Riley defeated ​​Matthew Chou / DJ Young and AJ Koller / Thomas Wilson before defeating Jay Devilliers and Patrick Smith (12-10,12-10) in the semi finals.
